» The Characters of Kingdom Hearts
Sora:
The hero of the Keyblade and main protagonist of the game, age 14. Sora was chosen by the Keyblade after his best friend Riku gave into the darkness. After his home was destroyed by the darkness, he awoke at a refuge town called Traverse Town. Later, he met up with Donald and Goofy, who were looking for the "someone with a key", who just so happened to be Sora. Now, they are on a quest to save the worlds from the Heartless and find their missing friends.
Riku: Sora's best friend and rival, age 15. He was meant to be the wielder of the Keyblade, but when he chose darkness, the Keyblade chose Sora instead.
Kairi: She is best friends with Sora and Riku, age 14. She is one of the 7 Princesses of Heart. She originally lived in Hollow Bastion, but she moved to Destiny Islands as a kid.
Donald and Goofy: They were sent on a mission by their King, Mickey, to search for someone with a key. They met Sora at Traverse Town and joined forces to stop the Heartless and search for King Mickey, Kairi, and Riku.
King Mickey: The King of Disney Castle who disappeared to find out why the worlds have been mysteriously disappearing. King Mickey is also a keyblade wielder.
Maleficient: One of the main villains in the game. Throughout the course of the game, her intentions were to find the Seven Princesses of Heart and find the heart of all worlds, Kingdom Hearts. After locating the final Princess of Heart, Kairi, Ansem (while inside Riku's body) unlocked the darkness within Maleficent's heart, turning her into a large dragon. But, she was defeated by Sora and the might of his Keyblade, along with his friends.
Ansem: The ACTUAL villain in the game. He was first seen in the Secret Cave by Sora. He began speaking to Sora, though Sora had no idea what he was talking about. Later on in the game, after Riku is defeated by Sora, Ansem takes over Riku's body. After Ansem is first defeated by Sora in Hallow Bastion, he revealed his true form to Kairi, Donald, and Goofy after Sora had released Kairi's heart, as well as his own, from his body. After Sora's life is restored, he, along with Goofy and Donald, go to a mysterious place called "End of the World," which is basically all that is left of the worlds taken by the Heartless. Deep in that world, they find Ansem and defeat him, ending his journey to release the darkness within Kingdom Hearts.
Leon: Only a minor character in this game, originally from FFVIII. He is a friend of King Mickey and he lives in Traverse Town ever since his world was destroyed. He tells Sora about the keyblade when they meet in Traverse Town.
