Sora:
The hero of this story. Chosen by the Keyblade, this 15-year-old is on a journey to reunite with his friends. His best friend Riku has gone missing, while Kairi has been left behind in the homeland of Destiny Islands. He has a cheerful disposition, and while a little naive, his sense of justice is extraordinary.
Donald Duck: Disney Castle's Royal Court Magician. Donald embarks on a journey with Sora and Goofy to seach for their missing King. Always impatient, Donald is never at a loss with an opinion. Though he is lightheaded, Donald always shows a side of kindheartedness.
Goofy: Captain of the Royal Knights at Disney Castle, Goofy has set out with Sora and Donald. He is an eternal optimist, who takse life in stride. Although he is a bit clumsy, he still notices things that others miss, and his intuition is suprisingly accurate.
King Mickey: The King of Disney Castle. He was one of the first to recognized the mysterious threat. King Mickey is involved in this game more than the first. Mickey is seen dressed in a Organzation XIII coat. King Mickey first appears in Twilight Town when he saves Sora, Donald, and Goofy from the Nobodies. He then tells them to leave town. What mysteries lie ahead?
Roxas: When you first begin the game, you play as Roxas. Roxas was once a member of Organization XIII. During Roxas's time in the Organization, he and Axel became friends, but Roxas left the Organization to find answers as to why he possesses the Keyblade.
The Heartless: Mysterious beings that attack relentlessly. Sora and friends encountered several types of these creatures on their previous adventures.
The Nobodies: "Nonexistent beings" under Organization XIII's control. Another powerful force, separate from the Heartless.
Riku: Sora's best friend from childhood, age 16. Originally intended to be the Keyblade Master, he chose Darkness, and the Keyblade chose Sora instead of him. At the end of the first game, Riku was left in the realm of darkness, but he escaped, meeting a man named DiZ, who wanted to see what path Riku would choose. At the end of Chain of Memories, Riku chose the "road to dawn." Then, at the beginning of the second game, after fighting Roxas and losing, Riku took the form of "Ansem" and helped DiZ infiltrate the Organization.
Kairi: Another one of Sora's best friends from childhood, age 15. She is one of the Seven Princesses of Heart. After being saved by Sora and sent back to their homeworld, she awaits both the return of Sora and Riku. But recently, she has lost her memories of Sora. Why is this?
DiZ: A mysterious entity shrouded in darkness.
